Tolls MCP: connect AI agents to the toll API
Direct answer: MCP (Model Context Protocol) lets an AI client call external tools. Cargoffer documents the server package @cargoffer/mcp-server-transcend: the agent (Claude Desktop, Cursor or other MCP client) asks for routes, tolls and costs, and the local server executes the real calls against the Tolls Calculator API with your local key. One setup, works across MCP clients.
How it works
The client launches npx -y @cargoffer/mcp-server-transcend@latest; the server authenticates with your environment API key and exposes tools (the corpus documents calculate_route-style route/toll tools); the agent decides when to call them and formats the API's per-section answer.
Setup
Claude Desktop: add an mcpServers entry in claude_desktop_config.json with command: npx, args -y @cargoffer/mcp-server-transcend@latest and the key in env. Cursor: Settings β Features β MCP β Add New MCP Server with the same command. Full guides: Claude Desktop, Cursor.
MCP vs Actions vs function calling
MCP keeps the key on your machine and covers all MCP clients; a ChatGPT custom GPT needs no install but registers the key on the platform; function calling gives full control but is your code. See ChatGPT and Gemini.
Verify exact package name and version on the public npm registry before deploying; amounts always come from live API responses.
