Truck toll calculator: classes, axles and weight

Direct answer: truck tolls depend on the toll class (axles plus authorised mass), the EURO emission class in countries such as Germany, the payment method and the exact tolled sections travelled. Using a car profile systematically underestimates heavy-vehicle cost.

What drives the class

  • Eurovignette-style classes (CLASS_1 to CLASS_4 for heavy vehicles in the model Tolls Calculator follows).
  • EURO class: TollCollect combines weight and emissions; EURO VI pays less per km than older trucks.
  • Transponders (Vía-T, Telepass) often carry different tariffs or discounts versus card/cash.

Method

Route with a heavy-vehicle router (height, weight and restrictions change the geometry), then send the polyline to the toll endpoint or the full profile to the costs endpoint (vehicle_profile with axles, weight_kg, euro_class).

Frequently asked questions

Why is my truck toll invoice higher than the estimate?
Operator contracts apply final tariffs (frequency discounts, special categories, extra sections). The per-section breakdown pinpoints deviations.
Does adding a trailer change the toll class?
It changes axles and total mass, the variables operators classify by; always declare the whole combination.
Do I need the EURO class?
Where the country uses emissions in tariff design (e.g. Germany's TollCollect), yes.
